Sexual abuse, particularly childhood sexual abuse, can cause very significant and very long term problems. Healing from the trauma often needs to be the first focus of therapy. Simply working with the cognitive-behavioural paradigm usually is inadequate. The trauma narrative, in experiential/hypnotic therapy such as Inner Change Therapy, can be processed fairly content-free, if the client chooses to, making it one of the most respectful ways of working with sexual abuse victims.
