Hi Kilie, I am traveling at the moment hence use of iPhone and short reply but from previous experience on the AHA professional members discussion page, Christian Hypnotherapists are a rarity. I would not worry about a non-Christian one as long as you feel they are open to working with YOUR beliefs which a good therapist should anyway. Go online and google various hypnotherapy professional bodies and inquire, best if they also hold other qualifications such as doctor psychologist counsellor etc, and insist on one that belongs to a professional body as there are also many charlatans out there but in the end it is the person you gel with and trust, after discussing your concerns, that will be best. I will ask on the discussion board if there's one near you but it will take a while for people to reply. Hope this helps. If you need further info feel free to call me on 0439439297.
Hi Sophie,
This simple yet sensible comment on "getting slim" Vs the "losing weight" makes so much sense. Thank you.

I have been struggling with my weight for a very long time. I am 42yrs old and I have never remembered a time when I was slim. I was solid as a child and now I am just fat.

I am a Christian and have struggled with the idea of having Hypnosis but now I am starting to realise it is ok to do this. I have been reading your essay Hypnosis and God: Are they compatible.

As a result, I am looking for a Christian therapist/hypnotist in my local area and would greatly appreciate your recommendations. I live in the LGA of Blacktown, a suburb called Quakers Hill.

I look forward to hearing from you soon,
Blessings,
Kilie Dewe

I had depression for 2 years. The anti-depressants didn't work. In the end I cured myself by getting rid of the cause of the depression (financial problems) , meditation and exercise.

You can go to the Australian Hypnotherapist Association website which will lead you to the National Hypnotherapist Register. But I’ve already done the homework for you. There is one in Cronulla:

Comment on Quit Smoking by mindrenewal

Hi, I don't know anyone in Townsville, but you can go to the Australian Hypnotherapist Association website and look. But really, quitting smoking is so easy you probably can do it yourself, if only you understood three things: 1) nicotine is mostly NOT addictive (otherwise there would be many people addicted to patches, but there aren't); 2) it's the "time out" that people crave, which is a self-nurturing time to find a few moments for yourself, which you can do WITHOUT cigarettes; and 3), this is the KEY thing: that it's the DEEP BREATHING that people crave in smoking, as they draw in (the smoke) because deep breathing de-stresses people and give people a sense of relief and well-being, and you can do that without cigarettes. And finally, it's the FEAR of having to quit that often stops people from quitting, so if you ALLOW yourself to smoke, but only after you've taken yourself outside, taken 15 to 20 long deep breaths. You'll find that you WON'T need that cigarette. And keep convincing yourself by speaking OUT LOUD that "I breathe only fresh air" at least three times each time you say it, while picturing yourself breathing in the very air you were born to breathe on the day you were born. Do not think or say the S word (smoking) because the brain processes thoughts in pictures and there is no picture for "don't", so if you think "I don't want to smoke", you have to think of "smoke" first, which then gets imprinted in your subconscious. You will breathe only fesh air! Hope this helps. And if it does, please come back here and post a comment to help others. :-) Sophie

Thanks Gaye, for taking the time to write this feedback for your relative. Depression is something that can be overcome, so I hope this will encourage others to seek help. Thanks again. Sophie

I am writing for a family member without a computer. After their first session with Sophie they were able to sleep much better and had a little more energy. After their session they felt they did not need to go back. The improvements have lasted for 3-4 weeks. My relative found Sophie very helpful and understanding, as well as very professional and well trained. Gaye.

You need to understand that I do not "accomplish" anything for you but I help facilitate your change, but you have to want that change first. I use hypnotic principles in an experiential counselling setting, based on your goals, your beliefs and of course, also your disbeliefs. One of the first "exercises" I would do would be to work with your skepticism. :-) If you wish to know more about what I do, you might wish to read about Ericksonian hypnosis (particularly on "utilisation") but also the "paradoxical theory of change", which is just a fancy terminology to to mean "sitting" with the client's problems until he/she works things out for him/herself. With the inner healing paradigm, I work with people's emotional tensions UNTIL they are reprocessed (not dissimilar to EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) but not in this case on trauma. Because I work hypnotically (eye-fixation), we are working very deeply in the unconscious mind. Obviously, every therapy will only suit those who are willing to engage in it. I hope this explains (as best I can) what I do. You can decide to book an appointment or otherwise.

What if it really will help you find a new measure of peace about your past, present and future? What if that was possible, within a brief therapy time frame? What if other people who were skeptical like yourself have ended up being pleasantly surprised? I leave it with you.

But thank you all the same. I might re-write the blurb to make it easier to understand, when I get around to it. In the meantime, you might want to read the page What Does Mind Renewal Offer, which spells out more clearly the "model" that I use.

Blessings,
Sophie
